Careful work around exposed masonry
Junction checked as one
We inspect the stack, leadwork and adjoining covering together.
High-level access planned
We consider safe access before opening masonry or roof details.
Older materials recognised
Our asbestos awareness training supports informed work around older roofs.
Repair the stack and its roof junction
Damp near a chimney breast can come from more than one place. Weathered pointing, cracked masonry, damaged caps and failed roof junctions can each let water in. We inspect the stack alongside its flashings, soakers and neighbouring slates or tiles. Open mortar joints, fallen debris, visible cracks or movement all deserve attention, particularly where materials sit above paths or access points. By separating masonry defects from covering and leadwork faults, we can set out the right repair rather than chasing the indoor mark.

Safe access for high and older structures
Chimney work needs close inspection because fine cracks and lifted flashings can be hard to judge from the ground. We consider roof height, stack position and safe working access before repairs begin. Our Asbestos Awareness Category A certificate is relevant preparation when working around older roofs and materials, though suspected asbestos still needs appropriate handling and assessment. We can coordinate pointing, local masonry attention and roof junction repairs where the defects meet.
Frequently asked questions
Why is damp showing beside the chimney breast?
Water may enter through pointing, masonry, caps, lead flashing, soakers or nearby roof coverings. It can then travel before appearing indoors. We inspect the stack and roof junction together to avoid assuming that one visible crack caused the mark.
Can you repair flashing and pointing on one visit?
Where access, conditions and the agreed scope allow, we can coordinate masonry and flashing work. We first identify which parts have failed, because replacing sound lead won't solve open pointing and repointing won't mend a split roof junction.
What does your asbestos awareness certificate cover?
Our Asbestos Awareness Category A certificate supports recognition of potential asbestos-containing materials and safer working awareness. It isn't permission to remove every asbestos product, so suspected material may require further assessment and suitable arrangements.
